This cladding course provides a structured and flexible pathway to qualification.

You’ll complete mandatory units covering key safety and operational tasks, alongside optional units that reflect the specialist nature of your role — from installing solar collectors to refurbishing sheeting or operating MEWPs

This NVQ Level 2 cladding course is ideal for:

  • Site operatives who install roof sheeting and wall cladding systems.
  • Labourers with experience looking to become qualified tradespeople.
  • Employers looking to get their cladding teams fully qualified.
  • Anyone working with associated tasks such as installing rainwater goods or refurbishing existing systems.

If you’re involved in preparing materials, handling and storing resources, and carrying out safe installation to meet drawings and specs — this cladding NVQ Level 2 is the route to recognition.

This cladding NVQ is made up of six mandatory units plus a selection of optional units.

You must complete the six core modules and achieve a minimum of 6 credits from the optional section.

Mandatory Units:

  • Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace (Level 1)
  • Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace (Level 2)
  • Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace (Level 2)
  • Preparing Resources for Installation of Sheeting and Cladding Materials (Level 2)
  • Installing Roof Sheeting and Cladding Systems in the Workplace (Level 2)
  • Installing Sheeting and Cladding Rainwater Goods on Roofs and Walls (Level 2)

Optional Units (choose one or more to achieve at least 6 credits):

  • Preparing and operating ergonomic manipulating machines
  • Slinging and hand signalling suspended loads
  • Refurbishing sheeting and cladding systems
  • Repairing roof or wall systems, including rainscreen
  • Operating boom-type or scissor-type MEWPs
  • Installing solar collectors

You’ll be supported to select the most relevant options for your role and work environment.

Once you’ve completed this Level 2 cladding course, you’ll be eligible to apply for a Blue CSCS Skilled Worker Card.

This card proves that you’re qualified and competent in your trade and is essential for working on most construction sites in the UK.

If you don’t yet have a valid CSCS card, you’ll also need to pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test and Level 1 In Health & Safety in a Construction Environment in order to work on construction sites in the UK.

This NVQ Level 2 cladding course is delivered via on-site assessment

You’ll continue working as normal, and your assessor will gather evidence of your competence in real-world scenarios.

You’ll be expected to demonstrate your skills and understanding over time through:

  • Site observations
  • Job specifications
  • Toolbox talks
  • Risk assessments and method statements
  • Photographic evidence
  • Witness testimonies

You may also provide supporting documents like training records, timesheets, and site reports.

Your assessor will guide you through what’s needed and help you build a strong portfolio.

There are no formal qualifications needed to start this cladding course, but you should already be working in a role that involves cladding installation.
