Which Dry Lining and Interior Systems NVQ Do You Need?

Dry Lining Fixer

The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Interior Systems – Dry Lining Fixing is for operatives who install dry lining systems, including plasterboard linings, partitions and associated framework.

Dry Lining Finisher

The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Interior Systems – Dry Lining Finishing is for operatives who finish dry lining walls and ceilings, including taping, jointing and preparing surfaces ready for decoration.

Both routes sit within the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Interior Systems and are assessed through real workplace activity. They can also support the relevant Blue CSCS Skilled Worker Card route, subject to the current CSCS requirements.

Level 3 Interior Systems

Train 4 Growth also offers the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Interior Systems for experienced workers carrying out specialist interior systems work.

The current Level 3 pathways cover Complex Suspended Ceiling Systems, Stretched Ceilings and Service Operable Walls. It is therefore a related Interior Systems qualification rather than simply the next level of the Dry Lining Fixing or Finishing routes.

No. Plastering involves applying wet plaster to walls and ceilings. Dry lining uses plasterboard sheets which are fixed in place and then finished with tape and jointing compound. Both trades prepare surfaces for decoration, but the installation methods are different.

For dry lining fixing and finishing, the main qualification is the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Interior Systems.

The qualification includes separate pathways for Dry Lining Fixing and Dry Lining Finishing, so the right route depends on the work you actually carry out.

The current Level 3 Interior Systems qualification covers other specialist interior systems work, including complex suspended ceilings, stretched ceilings and service operable walls.

Yes. Completing the relevant Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Interior Systems can meet the qualification requirement for the Blue CSCS Skilled Worker Card for dry lining occupations such as Dryliner Fixer and Dryliner Finisher.

You will also need to meet the current CSCS requirements, including passing the appropriate CITB Health, Safety and Environment test.

No. The NVQ is assessed through the dry lining work you already carry out in the workplace. There are no regular classroom sessions or traditional written exams.
