Comprehensive Curriculum

This Level 2 carpentry and joinery NVQ covers the core skills needed to work safely and productively on site.

Core units:

  • Conforming To General Health, Safety And Welfare In The Workplace
  • Conforming To Productive Working Practices In The Workplace
  • Moving, Handling And Storing Resources In The Workplace

Choose three from the specialised units:

  • Installing First Fixing Components In The Workplace
  • Installing Second Fixing Components In The Workplace
  • Erecting Structural Carcassing Components In The Workplace
  • Maintaining Non-Structural Carpentry Work In The Workplace
  • Setting Up And Using Transportable Cutting And Shaping Machines In The Workplace

CSCS Card Progression

Registering for this NVQ makes you eligible to apply for a Red CSCS card (while working towards your NVQ). On completion you can apply for the Blue CSCS Skilled Worker Card (5 years).

One-To-One Assessor Support

You’ll be paired with an experienced assessor who guides you through evidence collection and keeps things moving.

There are no formal entry requirements. You should be in a role where you can demonstrate carpentry and joinery tasks so your assessor can observe and sign off evidence.

This NVQ is built around real work. You’ll cover safe working, productive practices, handling materials, first fix, second fix, structural carcassing, maintenance and safe use of transportable machinery.

Assessment is entirely work-based. You’ll build a portfolio with support from your assessor using:

  • On-site observations and professional discussions
  • Photos/videos and site documentation (RAMS, drawings, job sheets)
  • Witness testimonies/supervisor references
  • Short knowledge questions where needed

When you’ve met the national standards, you’ll be awarded the Level 2 NVQ.

This qualification meets CSCS requirements for the Blue Skilled Worker Card upon completion. It’s delivered and quality assured in partnership with NOCN Group, ensuring your certificate is recognised across the industry.
