A Level 1 NVQ is a nationally recognised qualification aimed at new entrants to the construction industry. It’s suitable for anyone with little or no experience. You don’t need any prior qualifications to enrol — just a willingness to learn.

This qualification provides the foundation knowledge and skills that employers expect from someone starting out on-site. Once achieved, it can help you move into employment, apprenticeships, or higher-level NVQs.

Most construction sites in the UK require workers to hold a CSCS Green Labourer Card. Completing a Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction Environment qualification is the first step toward getting yours.

Once you’ve passed the course and completed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test, you can apply for your CSCS Green Card — giving you legal access to work on site.
