  • Work diaries and timesheets
  • Job specifications and drawings
  • Completed shuttered concrete structures
  • Supervisor or witness testimonies

Formworkers must show they can meet the standards on at least three occasions, proving consistency over time.

Most formworkers complete this Level 3 NVQ within 6 to 12 months, depending on the type of work they’re doing on site and how regularly evidence can be gathered.

There’s no fixed timetable – the course moves at a pace that fits around your job rather than disrupting it.

Assessment takes place in your normal formwork role, using the tasks you already carry out day to day.

There are no exams and no classroom sessions. Instead, an assessor will review your work on site and through evidence you provide, making the process practical, relevant and focused on real experience rather than theory.

Completing the Level 3 NVQ allows formworkers to apply for a Gold CSCS Supervisor Card. This card is widely recognised across the construction industry and is often required for supervisory and senior roles on site.

Holding a Gold CSCS card shows that you have the skills, experience and qualifications needed to oversee formwork operations safely and to the required standard.

It can make it easier to move into roles with more responsibility, take the lead on sections of work, and access larger or more complex projects where a Gold CSCS Supervisor Card is expected.

After completing the Level 3 NVQ in Formwork, many formworkers move into:

  • Senior shuttering carpenter roles
  • Formwork supervisor positions
  • Team leader or section supervisor roles
