On-Site NVQs for Carpenters and Joiners
Carpentry and joinery are core trades across construction. From fitting doors, frames and skirting to installing structural components and finishing interiors, skilled carpenters play a key role on housing, commercial and refurbishment projects. Because the trade is always in demand, gaining a recognised qualification can open more opportunities.
If you’re already working as a carpenter or joiner, an on-site NVQ is the simplest way to get qualified. There’s no classroom learning or written exams — everything is assessed while you carry out your normal work on site.
The NVQs below support different stages of a carpentry career, from skilled worker to advanced roles.
NVQ Options for Carpentry and Joinery
The Level 2 NVQ in Carpentry and Joinery is ideal for those carrying out day-to-day carpentry tasks such as first fix, second fix, installing doors, fitting mouldings and working with timber components. Completing this NVQ allows you to apply for the Blue CSCS Skilled Worker Card.
The Level 3 NVQ in Carpentry and Joinery suits experienced carpenters who take on more complex work, read detailed drawings, carry out advanced installations or support other workers on site.
Both qualifications are assessed through real work activities, giving you a practical route to recognised status and improved job prospects.
