The Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision is for anyone already working in construction who takes responsibility for organising or supervising work. You don’t need to be called a supervisor or foreman yet – you just need to be doing the job.

This course is ideal for:

There are no formal entry requirements, but you’ll need to be in a real work environment where supervision tasks are part of your job. You should already be involved in planning and organising work, overseeing teams, and making sure health and safety rules are followed.

To complete the Level 3 Supervisor NVQ, you’ll need to show your competence across five mandatory units. These units are designed to reflect the day-to-day responsibilities of a site supervisor or team leader.

Mandatory Units:

  • Confirming Work Activities and Resources for an Occupational Work Area in the Workplace
    Plan and prepare for work on-site, making sure the right people and materials are ready.
  • Developing and Maintaining Good Occupational Working Relationships in the Workplace
    Build trust, deal with conflict, and communicate clearly with your team and other trades.
  • Confirming the Occupational Method of Work in the Workplace
    Decide how the work should be done and check that tasks follow correct methods.
  • Implementing and Maintaining Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
    Make sure all health and safety procedures are followed and the site stays safe.
  • Coordinating and Organising Work Operations in the Workplace
    Allocate tasks, monitor progress, and make sure work runs smoothly and to plan.

There are no exams on the Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision. Instead, you’ll build a portfolio of evidence while working on-site. Your assessor will help you collect the right information to prove you meet the national standards.

Evidence Can Include:

  • Photos and videos of work
  • Witness statements from colleagues or site managers
  • Toolbox talks or meeting records
  • Health and safety reports
  • Site documentation, plans, or diaries
  • Observations by your assessor on site

You’ll work at your own pace, and our team will support you throughout the process.

When you’ve completed the Occupational Work Supervision NVQ Level 3, you’ll be able to apply for the CSCS Gold Supervisor Card. This card is a vital proof of your competence and allows you to take on supervisory roles on UK construction sites.

To get the card, you’ll need:

  • Your Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision (Construction)
  • A valid CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test (Supervisor level)

Once both are in place, you can apply for your Gold Card and take the next step in your construction career.
